As we approach the close of another year, it’s a wonderful moment to reflect on the journey we’ve shared together and look forward to the exciting possibilities that lie ahead.

This year has been one of meaningful milestones for our charity. We celebrated our first tree planting event, welcomed our first new celebrants since the pandemic, and I had the privilege of attending my first board meeting. Most significantly, I was honoured to be nominated as Chair of Trustees – a role I did not expect but one I am eager to embrace.

As I reflect on this past year and step into my new role, I’m filled with excitement and a sense of responsibility. As both a Trustee and a member of the Humanist community, I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact we are making. From the warmth and connection of our ceremonies to the environmental benefit of our tree planting initiatives, we are contributing in meaningful ways to the world around us.

But as we know, the challenges facing our world today are immense. It’s clear that, as Humanists and as individuals, we have a vital role to play in addressing these issues. In thinking about how we can continue to contribute, I am inspired by the work we do – fostering kindness, supporting individuals through life’s significant moments, and enriching the environment around us. These actions, though they may seem small, are a reflection of the larger, quieter revolution we are all part of.

Looking ahead, I am excited to continue this work with all of you. Together, we can bring even more kindness, understanding, and positive change to our communities and beyond.

Thank you for your ongoing support, and I look forward to what we will achieve in the year ahead.

With Kindness,

David Overend,

Chair of Trustees
